Photography One Expressive Self Portrait

Please write one paragraph on each self portrait describing how these photos show your personality, tell the viewer about you, how the treatment of the photo reflects the feeling of the project.  Then please make 2 comments on your classmates photos thinking about the feeling you get from their photo, and what they did to the photo to make you feel this way about their project.

  1. frustrated - I called this one frustrated because I am looking down. I am looking down because i'm most likely frustrated with school and scholarships and everything I have to get done. Especially scholarships, it makes me want to look down and not deal with it.

Determined - I call this one determined because I am looking off in the distance. I think I feel determined because its the end of the tri and everything is due. Scholarships deadlines are coming up, and i'm determined to get them done.

Lonely - Not really sure why I made all of these so depressing, because I am not depressed. I think this self portrait portrays lonely because its goes light to dark, and I actually look sad in it. I actually am not sad tho lol.

Hatred - I think this portrays hatred because of how red it is because red is a color that is used for anger. Its like a reddish orange and my face says i'm pretty mad or annoyed I think. I made it have pixels to have some texture.

Imagination - I think this one portrays imagination because i'm looking up and thinking about things. About everything that is floating around in my head. Everything that is out to imagine. I made it blue, dark, and glow because it is just the awesome.

holy - i named this one holy because i am located in a church and a holy chucrh

crazy - i named this one crazy because i am upside down with my face flipped around in a yelling tone.

ideas of the future - i named this one ideas of the future because i took out the top of my head to show the inside of my mind and imagination and a future idea.

  3. "im a flower" This piece shows the sunny side of my life. It really brings out my happy place. This is where I see myself after dying and going to heaven.

"star wars" This photoshop masterpiece is from a dream of mine. I dreamt of the battle of Hoth but the Bollywood version of it. Of course a dashing young man (me) staring as the hero of the battle killing the emperor.

"Going to space" this piece is one of my main goals in life. I have also wanted to float around in the soundless and airless space outside of the earth. Being simple inches away from death and only protected by my trusty fish bowl.

"Bryce Harper foul" is a realistic version of how the crowd and me would react if the best player in world hits a hard foul bowl down the line. everyone is very scared but also wants the ball worth thousands of dollars.

"Gobbler hunt" is the great edit i have ever created. It is what would happen if i was given the honor of being in the great gobbler hunt of 2017.

  4. "Two Face" was made to show how most people only know half of me. There is a half I keep to myself because that's how I protect who I am. "Two Face" reminds me of a persona people place on their faces when they are with others, protecting their secrets and their troubles lock into the other side of the person.

"Hidden in Plain Sight" was inspired by the way people can assume they know a person. Most people can look at the outer layers of a person. They start to know the person, but do they really? Do they know the person, or do they know what they want to know about the person? Good friends know how to get to the inner layers of the person, the hidden piece.

"You are Beautiful" was inspired by this building I saw in New Orleans. Seeing the saying, "You are Beautiful" there for everyone to see got me thinking. Everyone is beautiful. Everyone has the characteristic of beauty within them. Beauty is a combination of qualities that pleases the aesthetic senses. While beauty is usually seen as a physical characteristic, everyone has the internal characteristic of beauty within them.

"Muted" was inspired by the people that don't have a voice. Billions of people live in this world, however, many of them never have the ability to speak up. They can't share their opinions to the world, whether it be by force or by choice.

"Hiding the Real Me" was inspired by the ability people have to hide that piece of themselves. People get hurt so they build up walls or layers. They hide the piece of themselves to prevent being hurt in the future.

  5. One of my pictures is titled rage. It is titled that because I think it looks like very angry. I am turned from the camera and all that can be seen is my black silhouette in front of flames which gives an angry feel. The flames were added behind the photo and the exposure was brought down to make it look that way.

Another picture that I created is called Relaxed. I titled it this because it is me sitting in a field of flowers on a sunny day while smiling. This picture makes me feel relaxed when I look at it and it seems that I look that way in the photo. I added the flowers behind and made the photo of me look as if it were taken in the sun to match the background to give the photo the look I wanted.

Another picture I created was called Lost. I named it this because it makes me think of someone who is lost in the woods. The picture consists of me in a dark forest with a facial expression to match. To get it to look like this I added the background and changed the lighting of my face to make it seem darker to fit.

Another picture that I created is called Arrogant. I titled it this because when I look at it that is what it makes me think of. The text on the picture also reflects this. To make this picture I used a photo of me standing by a wall trying to look cool. I then added coloring and text on it to make it look like an album cover. Last I added some shades on myself to finish the look.

My last picture is titled Conflicted. I named it this because of the mood it gives off when I see it. There are four colored filters added that make me think that there are four moods to the photo. In the picture I am in all four colors which makes me think that I do not know how to feel, therefore it is called Conflicted.

  6. "Senior Class": I call this image Senior Class because this is my senior portrait. I really wanted to include my cat, as he is very important to me. The outcome was a tacky, old-style school picture + my cat.

"Unreality": This image depicts myself with a floating head in a forest scene with extra eyes. There are many creative liberties taken with this piece, like detaching the main part of my face to give it more contrast from the rest of my head. This is a completely impossible picture, thus, Unreality. I also added some tacky gradient shapes to connect this picture with some of my others, to make a very aesthetically pleasing portfolio.

"Smokin": In this image, half of my face and part of my body is fading away into smoke. I feel like the title is fairly obvious while looking at the picture.

"Fragmented Reality": This one is my favorite after my senior picture. It took quite a long while as I would use the linear lasso tool to create shapes on my person, use the eyedropper to choose a color within the selection, then fill in the shape with that color using the bucket tool. I did this for the whole picture (minus the background). It creates different fragments of colors that come together to create a full image.

  7. "Empty Thoughts" was inspired by me usually thinking about something but not quite realizing what I actually think about. It shows my head being empty because I often daydreams or have thoughts about things I don't even understand.
"Dying on the inside" is because at school I often feel as if I am dying. School may be the worst thing I've ever gone through and the day often feels far too long.
"Covered Fake Smile" is chosen because I feel that I often have a different emotion and have to cover it up with a fake smile. Because of this I chose to do this edit because my hands are showing me covering my face with a fake smile.
"Drowning in my Dreams" is chosen because I often have weird dreams. Whether I dream about falling off a cliff or going swimming in an ocean I have some peculiar dreams.
"Five Natural Emotions" I chose this because I often find myself choosing my emotion. Even though I can crack a smile once in a while I feel like I either need to show emotion or get on a lot of peoples nerves.
"Dotted Annoyance" I chose this because about 90% of the time I am annoyed by people so the other 10% is me being chill with people.

  8. "pride" i chose this because i'm a very egotistical person. no limits to what i'll say or who i'll say it to.
"Joy" I chose this with the thought of the end of another school year in mind.
"Bordem" I find life boring and tedious. I'm entertained by things most people arn't
"silly" I don't take very many things seriously outside of school or work
"shy" I don't like meeting new people

  11. "Fear" - My greatest fear is clowns and I chose to make the background clowns due to me cringing in fear for the picture
"Daydreaming" - I chose this because I often daydream and I just chose the things to go with the picture because they are what I daydream most about
"Shy" - This emotion was chosen because I am naturally a really shy person and I chose to put myself into a crowd to show that I am shy in crowds
"Peaceful" - This picture shows me playing the piano - which I can't play but still like to pretend I can - because I find listening to the piano quite peaceful
"Love" - I chose to represent love with my cat, Leo and I. I chose to use us because I have had Leo for almost 9 years and the love I hold for him is kind of like how a mom would love her child, I even call Leo my baby sometimes

  12. "Sad"- I feel as though this photo portrays the thought of being sad because of the way the edit made the picture deep and dark. When people are sad normally they shy away from people or interaction that's why I didn't look at the camera.

"Outrage"- When a person acts out in rage or anger they seem to be holding a lot of emotion behind them. The edit shows a dark background with the person coming forth with an angry face that expresses all the emotion they are holding behind them.

"Surprise"- In this photo I added a birthday cake, which is normally associated with maybe a surprise birthday party thrown by family or friends. When a person is put in a surprising situation they seem to cover their mouth or open their mouth in amazement.

"Silly"- This photo portrays a person that is releasing their silly side, which may be odd so the photo is placed in a sketch edit due to the fact that a silly face is portrayed better in a sketch form as if someone were to make it up. The photo and the edit work together because they just look odd.

"Guilt"- When a person is holding guilt or anger inside they feel as though they are darkened, such as the background. I looked up and held my hands together as if I were praying for forgiveness to release all the guilt that is behind me that people may not see or understand.

"Silly"- I feel as this photo portrays a person being silly because they are making an odd face that people don't see everyday, as if someone would just sketch it rather than a person making the face. The edit and the photo both portray just an odd characteristic.

look for it. In this picture I am wondering where something is and I
am looking for it, wondering where it is at.

Sad- In this picture I am sad and crying so I put my self on a baby’s
body crying and looking sad. To make this picutre to have a better
    effect on crying.

Dumb- When I say something dumb then realize what I said was
really dumb I feel like a meat head. This picutre depicts a piece of
meat in my head showing that I am being dumb.

in what they are saying I feel confused about what they are saying
